Permissions information for authors

SfE is a member of the STM Agreement regarding the granting of permission to re-use limited amounts of material in other published works.

1. Authors submitting to a SfE journal

It is your responsibility to clear all copyright permissions for your article and pay any permissions fees.

2. Requesting permission to reproduce material published in SfE journals

The following permissions will be granted free of charge:

Requests to reproduce your own work

SfE grants to authors the right to reproduce their work in any publication of which they are the author or editor, subject only to giving proper credit in the work to the original publication of the article by SfE.

Therefore, authors do not need to contact SfE to request permission to reproduce their work.

Requests to reproduce work by another author in academic texts

When the request is to reproduce the material in a peer reviewed journal, permission will be granted to reproduce any number of figures and extracts within reason.

For all other requests to reproduce or translate works held under copyright, SfE reserves the right to charge an appropriate fee.

If you have a permissions request for an article published in an SfE journal, please send your request to the Permissions Secretary giving as much detail as possible.

Additional information

Permission granted for the re-use of material in print is also granted for any electronic version of that work.

Permission granted for a first edition also applies to subsequent editions and translations.

Commercial reprint sales and translation rights

Reprints can provide your company with a unique promotional opportunity. Articles that mention your product in our high-impact journals are a useful marketing tool to hand out at your exhibition booth and to send out to customers and prospects as persuasive testimonials.

Traditional reprints are produced on high-quality coated paper and shipped within 4 - 6 weeks of placing your order. Or you can opt for the new e-prints, a pdf wrapped in copyright protection software that allows the number of accesses you have paid for, with unlimited viewing for each user, and can be sent to you as a link within a week of receiving payment.

For more information about reprints or if you are interested in translating an article for subsequent distribution, please contact Cadmus Communications, Email: bioscireprints{at}cadmus.com; Telephone +1 410 691 6214; Fax +1 410 684 2789
